It could be seen as a rather brave move by Sherman Cymru’s new artistic director, Rachel O’Riordan , to choose Romeo & Juliet as her opening production – after all, this is something most of us have seen countless times.

And to work with a mainly young, emerging cast is another bold step from the Irish-born director.

But, overall, her decisions have paid off as she delivers a fresh, energetic and gritty portrayal of Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers while remaining true to his language.
